Camp Sherman is built on 2,000 acres north of Chillicothe to train soldiers for World War I.
- 1918
German prisoners-of-war are confined at Camp Sherman (about 200). - 1918
Spanish Flu outbreak requires quarantine of Camp Sherman and Chillicothe.
- 1919
Soldiers, including wounded men, return from Europe to Camp Sherman to be discharged. - 1919
Government auctions of supplies and other property at Camp Sherman begin. - 1921
Camp Sherman is among the last of the World War I Army training camps to be decommissioned. - 1922
Final army soldiers discharged or reassigned from Camp Sherman to other locations. - 1922
State of Ohio begins leasing the rifle range (now Camp Sherman Joint Training Center). - 1922
State of Ohio begins purchasing land in the Camp Sherman Artillery Range (now Scioto Trail State Forest). - 1922
Ohio Historical Society begins archaeological excavation and reconstruction of Native American mounds on the site. - 1923
President Harding proclaims Mound City a national monument (Now Hopewell Culture National Historic Park).

The Veterans Administration Hospital begins admitting patients in newly constructed buildings. - 1926
United States Industrial Reformatory opens to inmates on former Camp Sherman land. - 1930
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructs roads, lakes, and facilities at Scioto Trail State Forest.

Union-Scioto Rural School (Now Unioto) opens on land adjacent to the Camp Sherman site. - 1955
Baseball stadium completed at Veterans Administration Hospital. - 1957
Unioto Elementary School opens on former Camp Sherman land. - 1959
Ohio Division of Wildlife obtains part of the Camp Sherman Maneuver Grounds (Now Pleasant Valley Wildlife Area). - 1960
Golf Course and Gymnasium completed at Veterans Administration Hospital. - 1960
Visitor Center is opened at Mound City (Now Hopewell Culture National Historic Park). - 1966
Chillicothe Correctional Institution opens on former Camp Sherman land. - 1967

Ohio Army National Guard takes full control of the Rifle Range. - 1973
